Armed with 30 burgers every day, a passion for food and a firm understanding of where he wants his business to go, entrepreneur Cute Mthembu is putting in the hard yards to achieve two goals – grow his business and contribute to uplifting his community.

The Highview Park, Tugela resident begins his mornings as early as 5am, cleaning his workspace where he prepares burgers for clients in Stanger.

Come 8am, he catches a R20 taxi ride to Stanger to move his stock. He dreams about growing his business to one day employing runners to sell for him.

Apart from creating jobs, the former machine operator also wants to uplift the rural community from which he comes by giving back in any way he can.

Cute resigned as a machine operator in 2020 to launch his mobile fast-food business.

“I love food, and preparing it reminds me of my grandfather,” he said.

His grandfather, Wilfred Shezi, was head chef at a Richards Bay restaurant. A farmer in his spare time, Wilfred taught his grandson everything he knows about food before passing on.

The 41-year-old has big plans and hopes to not only expand his operation to include Ballito, but perhaps even establish a catering company. Armed with a business plan he carries with him, one gets the sense that Cute’s dream is not far out of reach.

Already having registered his company under the name Mankunzane Concepts, he has sold burgers as far south from Tugela as South Beach in Durban.

He wakes up each morning to prepare food from scratch, which ensures it is still fresh by the time he reaches customers, and he doesn’t skimp on the quality and quantity of ingredients to ensure super burgers.

If you live or work in Stanger and would like to support Cute by getting your hands on one of his tasty rib or mutton burgers, or perhaps his coated chicken strips, give him a call at 073 063 9691.
