St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Princeton will celebrate its 117th picnic Sunday, Aug. 21, picking up right where it left off last year.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Marching Band was scheduled to perform last year but had to bow out due to COVID-19. This year, it is scheduled to return and will bring even more members with it. The band will be perform at 1 p.m. so individuals should bring lawn chairs or blankets and join in the fun.

St. John’s has a full slate of events planned for all ages. Individuals may start a week early by checking out the items that are up for bids Saturday, Aug. 13 at noon.

There are $25-$50 gift cards to area businesses like Amish Country Store (Princeton), Kim’s She Shed (Montello), Silvercryst (Wautoma); tickets to Shamba Safari (Neshkoro), tubing/kayaking at The Ice Bowl (Princeton), Christmas wreath-making workshop, golfing at Sondalle White Lake (Montello), Waushara Country Club (Wautoma), Lake WI Country Club (Merrimac); pheasant hunt-Lone Oak Pheasant Preserve (Montello); items such as a Brother’s sewing machine, Harry Potter Special Edition Hardcover Collection, duck skiff and other sports equipment; and then there are the trips.

Picnic Sunday kicks off at 9 a.m. as the car show entries begin to arrive. The cornhole tournament teams arrive at 10 a.m. for registration and games get underway at 10:30 for the 32-team double elimination tournament.

A chicken dinner also will be offered from 11 a.m. t0 1 p.m., while other attendees may eat on the lighter side with a brat, burger or hot dog.

Visitors may stroll through the car show to view some vintage models or play an array of games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. by visiting the Surprise Package, Plinko, Hoopla, ring toss, dice, pick a sucker.

In addition, individuals may try their luck at the Lucky 7 table, pull tabs, 50/50 raffle, basket raffle and the large raffle. The large raffle features a John Deere Gator for the grand prize, a washer/dryer for second, $1,000 for third and 90 more prizes.

Attendees may sit and relax with a beverage and be entertained from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. while listening to Tuba Dan and watching Dizzy D Clown twist balloon creations as you visit with friends and enjoy the day.

The picnic will wrap up starting at 2 p.m. with announcements of the basket winners, top online auction bidders and ending with the large raffle drawing.
